Social Welfare officers join search for 2-year-old Kassie

By Joel Julien

THE Social Welfare Department of the Ministry of the People and Social Development has gotten involved in the search for two-year-old Kassie Providence, who has been reported kidnapped, the Express has learnt.

Over the past two days officials of the Social Welfare Department conducted a search of the Mayaro area for Kassie, including visiting the address given to police officers by the relative accused of kidnapping her.

Officials of the Social Welfare Department could not find her.

On December 21, Kassie was taken from the front porch of her family’s Enterprise, Chaguanas home. She was playing with her two cousins at the time.

The children’s grandmother, Jennifer, ran out the house after she heard Kassie scream.

Jennifer saw a woman resembling a close relative, who the family has not seen or been in contact with for more than a year, running with Kassie.

The woman jumped into a waiting car which sped off.

Jennifer called her son Janton Providence, who was at work in Toco at the time.

He is Kassie’s father.

He called ChildLine and a report was made to Chaguanas Police Station.

Providence also came to the Express for help and his plight was published in Wednesday’s newspaper.

Around lunchtime on Christmas Day, Kassie was taken to the Mayaro Police Station by a woman claiming to be a relative.

But the woman was allowed to leave the station with the two-year-old minutes later without providing proper documentation explaining her relationship to the child, the Express has learnt.
