A MEMBER of the Regiment is the subject of an investigation into an act of serious indecency towards a 12-year-old girl.
The 40-year-old corporal, who is attached to Teteron Barracks in Chaguaramas, was taken into custody by Northern Division detectives on Wednesday after the girl’s mother lodged a report three weeks ago, said police.
Officers said the girl was at her Arouca home on December 7 taking care of her younger sibling, when the man, who is known to her family, entered the house looking for the girl’s mother.
When he realised the woman was not home “he started to act inappropriately” towards the girl before leaving the house, officers said.
Sometime later when her mother arrived home, the girl told her what had taken place and a report was made at the Arouca Police Station.
Head of the Division, Snr Supt David Abraham, spearheaded an investigation that led to the soldier’s arrest on Wednesday, officers said.
Up to yesterday evening, detectives were at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Roger Gaspard SC in Port of Spain to determine if there was sufficient evidence to have the soldier charged, police said.
