The Mighty Sparrow will perform at the Generation Showdown concert tonight at the Jean Pierre Complex, Port of Spain.
A release from Spektakula Promotions, organiser of the event, said Sparrow is expected to sing some of the most loved songs in his repertoire, built over an impressive 58-year career.
It is still to be decided which of the “Nu Skool” artistes will face Sparrow on stage, as none seems brave enough to go up against the seasoned legend, the release added.
Generation Showdown pits calypsonians and soca artistes of the old school against the younger acts of the day, or “Nu Skool” as they have been dubbed.
A special attraction is also an extempo segment featuring a free style clash between Gypsy and Bunji Garlin. The elders performing include Black Stalin, Johnny King, SuperBlue, David Rudder, Baron, Swallow and Explainer.
The younger artistes include Bunji Garlin, Fay-Ann Lyons-Alvarez, Kees Dieffenthaller, Mr Kill@, Chucky, 5 Star Akil and Farmer Nappy.
There will also be a special reggae showdown featuring young Jamaican dancehall artiste Popcaan going up against his elder, reggae singer Barrington Levy. The veteran crooner intends to school the young singer, who has been touted as the next big act to come from Jamaica, the release said.
This is the third edition of Generation Showdown.
