Stabbed to death over cardboard bed

...murder toll now 36

A FIGHT over a cardboard bed is believed to have caused the death

of a 50-year-old man in San Fernando yesterday. Larry Long died at the San Fernando General Hospital after he suffered stab wounds to the neck and chest.

According to police, Long was a socially displaced person who slept at the Old Norwegian Seamen's building at Lady Hailes Avenue, San Fernando. The building was as a fire station, but abandoned two years ago. Long previously lived at Rancho Quemado, Santo Flora, an investigator said.

Police said they were told that at around 1.20 a.m. Long had an altercation with another socially displaced person over the ownership of the cardboard and was stabbed.

Long was taken to the hospital where he died while undergoing treatment. Police said his death is being treated as a homicide, which has taken the murder toll to 36.

An autopsy was expected to be performed on the body yesterday.

Corporal Ramlogan of the San Fernando CID is investigating.
