Stacy joins Jack in Works and Transport

Stacy Roopnarine, the youngest Member of Parliament in Government, has been appointed Minister in the Works and Transport Ministry.

She has replaced Rudy Indarsingh, who was last week appointed to the Ministry in the Ministry of Labour.

Roopnarine, 26, previously held the position of Parliamentary Secretary in the Sport Ministry.

The decision to give Roopnarine a ministerial posting was announced by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar during yesterday's sod-turning ceremony to begin construction of the San Fernando to Point Fortin highway.

Persad-Bissessar said, "You would recall that Minister Indarsingh was transferred from the Ministry of Works to assist in the Ministry of Labour. In my Government there is a young Member of Parliament who is an engineer and I would like to announce today that I have instructed the President to appoint Miss Stacy Roopnarine as Minister in the Ministry of Works."

Roopnarine said she was elated.

"I will continue to do my best to serve in the interest of the country and I do believe the Prime Minister, in her wisdom, will continue to make decisions in the best interest of her Government," she said.

Roopnarine was confident that she was qualified for the job.

"I hold a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering. I graduated from the University of the West Indies in 2005 and that can be verified by the University of the West Indies," she said.

Roopnarine is the Member of Parliament for Oropouche West.
