State boards in place in two weeks, says PM

By —AR

MEMBERS of some State boards will be appointed in about two weeks, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar said yesterday.

"Within a week or two, we will be able to put some of the major boards in place. This is an exercise which we need to take our time with.

"You will recall those are some of the things the people voted against in the last election in terms of these boards operating—in fact, the personnel in some of these boards," Persad-Bissessar yesterday, when questioned by the media.

She was speaking at the Scarborough port, following a walkabout in the area.

Persad-Bissessar said several people have already been shortlisted to serve on various boards.

"We would want to be careful in the selection. We have shortlisted many persons and the final decision will be made by the Cabinet, but certainly not this week.

"Within a week or two, we will want to see some of those put in place," she said.

Since its sweeping election victory on May 24, the People's Partnership Government is yet to put new boards in place, sparking concern from various quarters in the public over the long delay.
