POLICE have arrested a suspect in the killing of Knolly Hudlin, who was stabbed to death on Carnival Tuesday.
A relative said the suspect was held yesterday at around 4 a.m. at a house in Princes Town.
Hudlin, 62, was attacked by a close male relative in the yard of his home at Penal Rock Road.
He died of shock and haemorrhage after he sustained three stab wounds to the chest, pathologist Dr Valery Alexandrov concluded after an autopsy at Forensic Science Centre, St James.
Hudlin’s wife, Fern Ryan, said the suspect was an outpatient of St Ann’s Psychiatric Hospital and the psychiatric ward of San Fernando General Hospital and a protection order was taken out against him.
Relatives had also complained about the lack of police response to their calls for assistance.
But yesterday, Ryan thanked the police officers who not only searched for the suspect but also attended the wake every night since her husband died, ensuring the family’s safety.
Three officers she singled out were Sergeant Victor, Sergeant Ganesh and Sergeant Dilpaul.
The relative said: “We feel relieved now. We could open up our doors once more. We feel safe again.”
Hudlin’s funeral is expected to take place today at Belgrove’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Coffee Street San Fernando.
It is scheduled to start at 11 a.m.
