‘Suspect shot dead trying to stab police during chase’

 A man who tried to stab a police officer was shot dead in Claxton Bay yesterday.

The man, who was not identified up to late yesterday, died at hospital while receiving treatment.

According to police, at around 11 a.m., officers of the Southern Division Task Force were on patrol in St Margaret’s Village, Claxton Bay when they saw the man acting suspiciously.

Officers confronted the suspect who ran. They gave chase and when they caught up to him, he pulled out a knife and attempted to stab one of them.

Police shot him, and he was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital.

Police said they are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the man.

He was described as be­ing of Afro-Trinidadian ethnicity, in his mid-20s and with a low haircut.

His body was taken to the San Fernando Mortuary.
