Suspected car thief killed
A SUSPECTED car thief was killed and two others escaped during a chase with police officers in central Trinidad yesterday.
The dead man remained unidentified up to late yesterday while the search continued for the other suspects.
According to police, at around 2.50 a.m., three thieves held up and robbed a family of an undisclosed amount of cash and valuables in Edinburgh, Chaguanas.
The thieves escaped in a white Mitsubishi Lancer motor car.
A report was made to the Chaguanas Police Station and police issued an all-points bulletin.
A party of officers of the Central Division Task Force, led by Superintendent Johnny Abraham and Sgt Tooleram, spotted the vehicle travelling along the Caroni Savannah Road.
The police began chasing and the suspects’ vehicle crashed in Charlieville.
Police said the suspects began to shoot as they scrambled out of the wrecked car and officers returned fire.
One of the suspects was shot while two others ran off with the money and jewels.
The wounded suspect was taken by police to the Chaguanas District Health Facility where he died while being treated, police said. —SM
