TOP sorry for attack on teen

THE Tobago Organisation of the People (TOP) yesterday apologised to Crystal Smith after she was reportedly slapped by a man and then verbally abused by a group of people, all of whom were TOP supporters.

TOP was responding to reports that aired on television on Thursday night and then carried in two of the three daily newspapers where 16-year-old Smith alleged she was assaulted for wearing a People's National Movement (PNM) T-shirt while near her Signal Hill, Tobago, home.

"In this regard, The Tobago Organisation of the People sincere ly apologises to Ms Crystal Smith for the unfortunate incident carried out by persons deeming themselves TOP supporters.

"We strongly condemn any form of violence, verbal or physical attacks against anyone. We believe that it is one's right to support any political party they wish to and not be chastised for doing so," said TOP.
