Police were continuing their search for a 41-year-old Trinidad and Tobago national, who escaped from the Belle Isle Correctional Facility, St Vincent and the Grenadines, where he was serving a jail term for possession of illegal drugs.
Police Commissioner Michael Charles said no information had been obtained regarding the escape of Desmond “Cat” Pavy, who escaped from the facility on February 22.
“There is no other information, just that he escaped,” Charles said, adding that a senior member of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) is leading the investigation.
This is the second escape from the EC$18.7 million facility within a three-month period.
Last December, Colly Lowman, who was serving a three-year sentence for wounding, escaped from the facility and was given an additional year after his capture.
Charles said despite the escapes, the Belle Isle Correctional Facility, has the physical integrity and security system necessary to house prisoners.
“I visited the facility and I am totally satisfied with the facility. With regards to how someone escaped, that’s beyond me, and that is why an investigation is on,” he said, adding: “security at Belle Isle is always 100 per cent.” —CMC
