POLICE are searching for two men who stabbed an Arima taxi-driver several times about the body yesterday morning in an attempt to steal his vehicle.
Officers said 28-year-old Kennedy Lopez is currently in an unsatisfactory condition at Eric Williams Medical Complex (EWMSC) in Mt Hope.
Detectives said at around 12.30 a.m., Lopez, of Calvary Hill, Arima, was plying his Nissan B14 car for hire when he stopped for two male passengers at Prince Street.
Upon reaching Maturita Road, officers said, the men announced a hold-up and began beating Lopez before stabbing him in the chest.
Despite being stabbed, detectives said, Lopez took the keys out of the car’s ignition and ran to safety. The two men then escaped from the scene.
Shortly after, Lopez returned to the car and noticed that a quantity of cash and his $200 cellular phone had been stolen.
A passer-by took Lopez to hospital where he remained up to last night, said police.
PC Dillon of Arima Police Station is continuing investigations.
