Team to probe ministry unit

Allegations of corruption

By Denyse Renne

An internal team within the Ministry of the People and Social Development has been tasked with investigating allegations of corruption within the Inter Agency Unit (IAU).

In a media release issued yesterday afternoon by the ministry’s communications department, the ministry said: “The results of this investigation would be made public in due course.”

The release came on the heels of an exclusive article in yesterday’s Express, in which manager of the IAU Andrew Boodoo had his services terminated following allegations of wrong-doing within the IAU.

The release said  Boodoo’s termination was not made by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar.

“While the Ministry can confirm that Mr Boodoo was relieved from his duties following due process, at no time did the honourable Prime Minister instruct the permanent secretary to terminate his services as reported.

“Given the confidential nature of human resource matters, the Ministry is not in a position to provide additional details at this time,” the release stated.

The release added “ there are no plans to relieve senior unit heads within the ministry of their duties at this time.”
