A LA HORQUETTA teenager was shot dead near his home on Wednesday night in what the police described as a gang-related homicide.
The incident occurred just after 10 p.m.
The murder toll for the year to date stood at 28 up to last night, while the figure on January 17 last year was 21.
Police said the victim, Jamal Thompson, 19, his brother, Gerald Thompson, and some other men were liming in front of a house near Evans Rees Lane, Phase Four, La Horquetta, when a white Mitsubishi Lancer stopped near the group.
Two gunmen got out the car and opened fire on the men, who scampered out of the way.
Jamal Thompson ran into his neighbour’s house and one of the gunmen followed him and shot him dead in the living room.
Thompson’s brother Gerald received a gunshot to his leg.
Jamal died on the spot while his brother was taken to Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, where he remains in stable condition.
Homicide Bureau officers are continuing investigations.
