FOR the second time yesterday, a 15-year-old girl was sent to prison because there was no one to take her bail on the housebreaking and larceny charges she faced.
The girl made her second appearance before the Princes Town Court charged with breaking into her parent's home at Basseterre, Moruga. It was alleged she stole two pairs of gold earrings and two shirts together valued at $870.
On Monday she denied committing the offences. On that day Magistrate Nalini Singh said she was willing to grant the child $10,000 bail with her mother as surety. The mother was standing at the girl's side.
However, when the magistrate explained that taking the bail will mean the mother having to pay the $10,000 should the girl not attend court, the woman quickly told the magistrate the girl was an uncontrollable child and had another matter before the court.
That case was also called yesterday and a probation officer's report was ordered.
Police prosecutor Sgt Subhas Ramkhelawan said the court could also be guided by the probationer's report when dealing with the housebreaking and larceny matters.
Singh adjourned the case to September 28. She was once again told there was nobody in court who was able to take the child's bail and the girl's mother was a victim in the matter. The child was remanded to the juvenile section of the Women's Prison.
