Shot in Laventille:
Three men shot dead while sitting in cars
HOMICIDE detectives are now investigating three murders in the Laventille and Diego Martin areas.
The men were all shot while sitting in cars on Tuesday.
In the first incident, 31-year-old Sheldon “Peas Head” Thompson was shot dead while sitting in the front seat of his car at Snake Valley, Laventille.
The father of two was shot dead around 5 p.m., police said. Officers said residents of the area heard gunshots and when they checked moments later, Thompson was found dead.
He had gunshot wounds to the head and was pronounced dead on the scene.
The father of two did not get the opportunity to christen his two-month-old son, Che Thompson, his sister Stacey Thompson told the Express in a telephone interview.
Police are claiming the killing to be gang-related, as Thompson lived at Sapodilla Trace, Laventille.
However, his sister said she has no idea as to why anyone would want her brother dead since he had no enemies. She described her brother as a loving, outgoing and smooth person.
About five hours later, three men were shot while driving along Quarry Street, Diego Martin.
Police reports are that around 9.58 p.m., 21-year-old Brad Williams, of Upper Quarry Street, Diego Martin, was the front passenger in a car driven by Jamal Gabriel, 23, along with Julio Cumberbatch, 20, a rear seat passenger.
The men were ambushed by gunmen near the corner of Quarry and Kelly Streets, hitting Williams in the head and upper body.
In a telephone interview with the Express, Williams’s father Ramesh Williams said his son was a quiet child and was not known to him to be involved in any illegal activity.
He added that he believed his son was killed because of his affiliation with the wrong crowd.
“Children does have their ways,” he said.
Williams died while undergoing treatment at Port of Spain General Hospital.
Gabriel was shot in the right shoulder and upper back, and Cumberbatch was shot in the lower back.
Constable Ramdass is investigating.
About 30 minutes later, Iodaley “Buddha” Julius was shot dead while seated in his car outside the home of his girlfriend at Gokool Street, Diego Martin.
Julius lived at Upper Quarry Street, Diego Martin.
Police believe the same killers who shot Williams returned and assassinated Julius, who they say was Williams’s boss.
Officers retrieved 12 gauge casings and .38 shells at both scenes.
Speaking with members of the media at the Forensic Science Centre yesterday, Julius’s sister and cousin described him as a loving man who would have given his last to anyone who needed it.
His sister, Adanna Julius, said her brother was too trusting, while his cousin, Nika Augustine, said his trusting is what may have led to his death.
Police have labelled the three killings as gang-related.
