Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a partially burnt body in Arouca yesterday afternoon. While up to press time, full details remained unavailable, sources told the Express that at about 12.30 p.m. yesterday, Arouca police received a report the body of a man had been observed in some bushes off Savannah Drive, Arouca.
A party of officers, led by Sgt Charles, responded to the report and upon arrival, the officers began combing the area. It was said some 50 feet inside the bushes, the officers came across the partially burnt body of a man of African descent. The area was cordoned off and crime scene investigators visited the scene.
There were no identification cards on the body, police said.
A district medical officer officially pronounced the individual dead and ordered the body to be taken to the Forensic Science Centre in Federation Park for an autopsy, pending identification.
