Today is nomination day in St Joseph by-election
TODAY is nomination day for the St Joseph by-election.
Up to press time the People’s National Movement (PNM) was the only major political party to have named a candidate who would be contesting the election.
Terrence Deyalsingh, the PNM’s candidate. is expected to file his nomination papers at 9 a.m. today at the Elections and Boundaries Commission’s (EBC) office at #96 Aranjuez, Main Road.
The United National Congress (UNC) and the Independent Liberal Party (ILP) have until 3 p.m. today to file their nomination papers.
The ILP said last night their candidate would file by 10 a.m. today.
The returning officer for the St Joseph by-election is A Ivor Allum.
Allum is expected to be in office from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow with a one-hour lunch break from noon.
Candidates are expected to visit the EBC’s office today with duplicates of their nomination papers.
Candidates are also to present a declaration form which will ensure that they are clear to contest the election, not bankrupt, live in the country and have no criminal matters.
