Trinidad is an unfriendly tourist destination

Cadiz agrees with travel report:

Minister of Tourism Stephen Cadiz says he is not surprised by the World Economic Forum's "Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report" for 2013 which ranks this country among the top ten most unfriendly tourist destinations in the world.

This country was ranked as the eighth least-tourist-friendly destination on the planet. Under the theme "Reducing Barriers to Economic Growth and Job Creation", The Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Report 2013 assessed 140 economies worldwide, based on the extent to which they are putting in place the factors and policies to make it attractive to develop the travel and tourism sector, the World Economic Forum's website, www.weforum.org, stated on Wednesday.

In a telephone interview yesterday evening Cadiz said:

"That was one item in a fairly extensive report and it was dealing with the affinity of how nationals of Trinidad and Tobago feel about the tourism business in Trinidad and Tobago.

And I must say that it is not surprising because I think that is fairly accurate, because in Trinidad and Tobago, especially Trinidad, we don't see tourism or have not for decades seen tourism as being a major part of our economy for a whole host of reasons. I don't have a problem with it because it is something we are actually working on changing by educating and create an awareness about the tourism product throughout the population."
