Two Sando cops arrested
A POLICE inspector in the Southern Police Division was arrested yesterday for allegedly using his influence to have a relative released from police custody.
The officer, with over 30 years’ experience, was detained by the Professional Standards Bureau while on the job.
A police source, speaking to the Express, said two weeks ago the brother of the senior police officer was detained by officers of the San Fernando Police Station for refusing a breathalyser test.
The source said the inspector came to the station and released his brother from custody, and used obscene language against the officers in the charge room.
The incident was reported to police and yesterday, around 9.30 a.m., officers arrested the inspector at the Police Administration Building in San Fernando.
He is expected to appear in court today.
In an unrelated incident, a Special Reserve Police officer was arrested yesterday for allegedly stealing and selling a cellphone.
According to a police report, the SRP, who is attached to the San Fernando Traffic Branch, allegedly took a Samsung Galaxy SIII, valued $4,000, from a person who was detained at the police station. He is alleged to have subsequently sold it for $1,600.
He is also expected to appear in court today.
