A 33-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man appeared before a Port of Spain magistrate yesterday charged with possession of firearms and ammunition.
However, the two accused — Elizabeth Rogers aka Nadine Bhola, 33, from Patna Village, and Anthony Maynard, 30, of La Puerta — are both expected to reappear today before the 4B court as their background tracings were unavailable at the time of their appearance.
As a result, both have been remanded into custody.
The two were arrested on Thursday during a police exercise.
The exercise was spearheaded by Senior Superintendent Ishmael David, with assistance from Cpl Balliram, PC King, PC Hernandez, PC Khan, PC Williams, PC Pantin, PC Turton, PC Moseley, PC De Freitas and WPC Gittens, among other officers of the Western Division Task Force.
The officers, acting on information received, made their way to La Puerta Avenue, Diego Martin, where they executed a search warrant.
At this location, the officers allegedly found and seized a Taurus 9mm pistol with ten rounds of 9mm ammunition.
The officers, acting on further information, then made their way to Patna Village, where they executed a search warrant at a home occupied by a woman.
It was at this location that the officers said they seized one Baretta pistol loaded with ten rounds of 9mm ammunition.
Both suspects were detained and taken to West End Police Station, where they were kept until their appearance before the magistrate yesterday.
