Two infants have drowned a day apart in swimming pools, one in Mayaro, and the other in Port of Spain.

On Sunday, 18-month old Obdale Gonzales was taken by relatives to a beach lime following a christening. He went missing and when a search was mounted, the child was found dead in a nearby swimming pool. Relatives said that Obdale was last seen with a group of children who were being supervised. They believe that it was because the group was so large that the child went missing.

A five year old girl drown today at the YMCA in Port of Spain today. The girl was part of a swimming class which met between 9a.m. and 10a.m. After the class ended, the group went to change. It was during a head count that the girl was miss. They did a search and found her at the bottom of the pool, at the deep end. Life guards performed CPR, the paramedics were called. The child was taken to the Port of Spain general hospital but died at about 11a.m.
