POLICE arrested two men, who they say are responsible for a series of rapes throughout the country, during an early-morning exercise in Maloney yesterday.
More than 200 police and Defence Force officers swooped down on the Maloney area around 3 a.m., after receiving information that criminals from Port of Spain and other areas had “migrated” into the division.
Snr Supt David Abraham, head of the Northern Division, said some of the men arrested were wanted for various crimes in Port of Spain.
They are to be placed on a series of identification parades in the coming days.
The two “serial rapists”, he said, were held in connection with the rape of a woman in the Caura area recently.
“The two suspects arrested were positively identified. They were identified relative to other rapes as well. They were charged and they are expected to appear in court but they are also wanted by other stations because they are serial rapists, we believe,” said Abraham.
Also included in the exercise were Supt Hosein, acting Insp Wayne Baptiste, Sgt Charles, Cpl Ramjohn and WPC Linton.
