Two more murdered by gunmen
THE murder toll continues to climb with the deaths of two more men on Saturday night.
With the murder of David Bedeau in Arima and Nigel Rajkumar in Aranjuez, the toll for the year to date now stands at 281, according to an Express count.
Bedeau, 29, was shot dead at around 7.30 p.m. along Tumpuna Road, said police.
Investigating officers said residents in the area reported hearing the sound of gunfire before finding Bedeau, of Marley Dookie Street, Tumpuna Road, lying along the roadway with gunshot wounds to the body.
Officers of Arima Police Station Homicide Bureau of Investigations and Crime Scene investigators went to the area and carried out enquiries.
Just 30 minutes later, Rajkumar, 38, of Mary Street, Aranjuez, was shot dead by a lone gunman as he stood in the yard of a resident, also along Mary Street.
Officers said at around 8 p.m. Rajkumar was standing in the yard when he was approached by the gunman who opened fire and escaped. After being shot, police said Rajkumar ran short distance but later collapsed.
He was taken to Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope where he was pronounced dead.
Police said they have since classified Rajkumar’s killing as gang-related as he was allegedly involved in drug trafficking.
Homicide officers are continuing investigations into both incidents.
