Two more murdered overnight

HOMICIDE detectives of the Port of Spain branch are now probing the murders of two men in their jurisdiction. According to police reports, Hugh Will Sergeant and Maurice Emmanuel were shot and killed in separate incidents yesterday.
The first to be murdered was Sergeant. Police said the 56-year-old was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Sergeant of Thompson Lane off Real Street, San Juan was driving along Bagatelle Road, San Juan when he got a flat tyre. Sergeant, a driver with the Unemployment Relief Programme (URP) stopped to change the tyre when a lone gunman walked up to him and shot him several times about the body. The gunman then ran off. Sergeant was pronounced dead on arrival at the Port of Spain General Hospital.
The police said the killing occurred at around 6.45 p.m.
In the second killing 27-year-old Maurice Emmanuel of Boxhill, Trace Laventille was shot dead two hours later.
Emmanuel was found dead in a track at Sapodilla Trace, Laventille after resident reportedly heard several loud explosions.
