Two suspected car thieves killed
High-speed chase, shootout with cops
TWO suspected car thieves were shot and killed by police officers, and two others are on the run following a high-speed chase with police through Todd’s Road Village, Chaguanas yesterday.
Dead are Kareem Stewart, of Carapo, and Keron Guy, of Tunapuna.
Police said they were part of a gang of four suspected of stealing two vehicles—a Toyota Hi-Lux and a Nissan Navara—on Tuesday night. Police officers of the Northern and Central Police Divisions were in search of the vehicles and yesterday morning, both were spotted in Central Trinidad.
At around 7 a.m. police officers, led by Superintendent Johnny Abraham, chased the two vehicles to Todd’s Road.
The two suspects in the Navara fired on police and escaped into the forest, after their vehicle crashed.
Police said the suspects travelling in the Hilux also crashed the vehicle a short distance away, but, attacked another motorist and stole his white AD wagon.
The thieves attempted to escape along Main Road, Palmiste, but again crashed.
As the men fled the disabled vehicle they again exchanged gunfire with police.
It was then that they were shot.
Stewart and Guy were taken by the police to the Chaguanas Health Facility where they were pronounced dead on arrival.
Two firearms were also recovered in the ordeal, police said.
