ALMOST eight years after she was kidnapped, robbed, beaten and shot in the face, two men were yesterday found guilty with attempting to murder Diego Martin resident Linda Vandanna Ali.
Isaac Estrada and Jemerley Rolle were found guilty of attempted murder, kidnapping, robbery with violence and malicious damage to property, by a nine-member jury before Justice Hayden St Clair Douglas in the Port of Spain Sixth Criminal Court yesterday evening.
The jury deliberated for just over two hours before returning the guilty verdict.
Estrada and Rolle were both charged with committing the offences against Ali on the night of May 29, 2005.
Ali was outside her Tiara Boulevard, Diamond Vale, home when three men in a white car snatched her and bundled her into her own vehicle before speeding off.
The State argued that Rolle and Estrada were two of the men involved.
Prosecutor Randall Hector argued that after kidnapping Ali, Rolle and Estrada took her to Blue Basin, Diego Martin, where they beat her and robbed her of her cellphone, cash and jewelry before shooting her in the face and setting her car on fire.
Hector told the jury Ali was found by police shortly after crawling out of some bushes close to the area where she had been shot.
A ransom of $8,000 was also paid to the men by one of Ali's relatives, said the prosecutor.
Ali gave four days of testimony in the matter.
The accused men were represented by defence attorney Ian Brooks. They will be sentenced on January 21.
