UNC: Beating of effigy of PM disrespectful

The executive of the United National Congress (UNC) Tabaquite constituency is calling on the relevant authorities to act on what it has described as the disrespectful act of dragging and beating an effigy of Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar through the streets of Port of Spain by the leader of New National Vision (NNV), Fuad Abu Bakr, son of 1990 attempted coup leader Yasin Abu Bakr.

In a release yesterday, the executive stated: “The Tabaquite constituency executive strongly condemns the disrespect shown to the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar, by the leader of the  NNV, Mr Fuad Abu Bakr, in which an effigy of the Prime Minister was displayed in Port of Spain.

“This kind of disrespect to the office of the Prime Minister must not be allowed to perpetuate itself, even if there are differences of opinions with respect to governance. The Tabaquite constituency executive expects that those in charge of upholding law and order will ensure that the institutions of the State are not brought into disrepute.” The release added that the country continues to be transformed by the work of the People’s Partnership Government and the executive of the constituency is confident in the country’s leadership and Persad-Bissessar’s governance.
