Congress of the People (COP) founding member Carolyn Seepersad-Bachan yesterday demanded the United National Congress (UNC) investigate voter irregularities within its party after reports that her party card was used to vote in UNC's internal elections two weeks ago.
Seepersad-Bachan said though she was originally a "lifetime" UNC member, she resigned in 2006 and has not participated in UNC party politics since then.
"The UNC has to clean up their listing. I was getting the impression that someone voted with the card and I am very concerned that that may have happened," she said.
Seepersad-Bachan confirmed that she does not hold a UNC party card.
"I never applied for any card in the UNC," Seepersad-Bachan said yesterday.
She was referring to recent reports that she was still on the UNC member listing and possessed a party card that allowed her voting privileges in that party's internal elections.
"If there is such a card, a new card, then I cannot understand how that could have happened and the UNC has to look at their own internal procedures. I know that could not happen here in the COP," she said.
Seepersad-Bachan made the statements as she left the COP impromptu membership meeting at the party's operations centre in Charlieville, Chaguanas yesterday.
"I make it very clear, I resigned publicly. The letter went in to Mr Basdeo Panday in 2006," she said.
