Internationally acclaimed founder and director of the Harvard International Negotiation programme, Dr Daniel Shapiro, will be teaching members of the People's Partnership Government the art of negotiation during their four-day workshop in Tobago.
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, upon her arrival at the Crown Point Airport in Tobago yesterday, said Government was "very lucky" to have retained Shapiro's services. Shapiro will be making his presentation tomorrow at the Coco Reef hotel, where the workshop is being held.
Other persons who will be lecturing to Government members include Tony Fraser, on Government and Media Relations, Martin Daly SC, on the Separation of Powers Between the Executive, the Judiciary and the Legislature, Reginald Dumas, on Governance for an Effective and High Performance Public Service, and Joan Massiah on Protocol.
Persad-Bissessar said the workshop is for the Government to bond together and work efficiently as a team.
"Our policies, our programmes, our agenda, to put it on the front burner. Crime fighting is number one, we are going to talk a lot about that, on top of that the economy, the budget is coming up, we'll spend some time on that. The main focus for us in this Cabinet workshop is the bringing together all the MPs, Parliamentary secretaries and so on for us to really bond and work," Persad-Bissessar said.
"The objective is for us to do better for Tobago and Trinidad. Do our best to make sure Tobago is a partner in this and Tobago is a part of Trinidad - we will take care of Tobago. Tobago is very special to us," she added.
Persad-Bissessar was given a grand welcome upon her arrival in Tobago, just before 7 p.m., as dancers and drummers of the group "Drummers of Tomorrow" serenaded her with song and dance.
The Prime Minister also took time to meet and greet several adults and children at the airport.
