Unidentified man shot to death inside casino

The murder toll in the country is now 240 for the year, with the killing of an unidentified man at a casino in Arima yesterday morning.

Police reports stated at about 2.30 a.m. the manager of the Player’s Club along Green Street, Arima, heard several loud explosions and observed patrons scampering out of the establishment. Upon investigating, he discovered an injured man slumped between two slot machines. The victim, police said, was bleeding from what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds to his upper torso.

The police and emergency health services were notified and a party of officers from the Arima Police Station and the Northern Division Task Force visited the scene. The injured man was rushed to the Arima District Health Facility, however, he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Officials from the Homicide Bureau of Investigation were notified and the area surrounding the casino was cordoned off. Crime scene investigators visited the casino and several spent shells were recovered. Police sources said they believed they knew the identity of the victim, however, they were waiting to confirm this with his relatives before releasing the information to the public.

The murder toll for the same period last year stood at 201. Investigations are continuing.
