Veteran TV cameraman dies at 53

THE MEDIA fraternity has been thrown into further mourning following the death of veteran cameraman Bissoondath Rampersad.

“Ram”, as he was commonly known by colleagues, passed away at the Port of Spain General Hospital on Saturday night.

He was the husband of Caribbean New Media Group (CNMG) deputy head of news Sandra Maharaj.

Ram, 53, was said to be ailing for some time.

He had a career spanning over 20 years.

Ram worked at State-owned Trinidad and Tobago Television (TTT) up until the station closed its doors in 2005.

He then worked at the Government Information Services Ltd (GISL).

Yesterday members of the media fraternity took to social networking site Facebook to reminisce about Ram.

Ram is expected to be laid to rest on Wednesday.

The death of Ram follows that of veteran journalist Therese Mills, whose funeral takes place tomorrow at the Church of the Nativity, Crystal Stream, Diego Martin.

Mills, 85, was the executive chairman and editor-in-chief of Daily News Ltd, publisher of Newsday.
