THERE was yet another murder yesterday with the death of a 27-year-old Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) employee.

Eddy Spence was shot several times about his body as he was walking along Seventh Avenue, Malick, Barataria, yesterday morning.

Police said around 7.45 a.m., Spence, who lived in the Malick area, was on his way to work when a car pulled up alongside him and the driver opened fire, hitting him about the body.

Spence slumped to the ground and was later rushed by officers attached to the North Eastern Division Task Force (NEDTF) to Port of Spain General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

His death has carried the murder toll for the year so far to 69, compared to 58 for the same period last year (February 22).

A release issued by WASA stated that Spence had been employed with the authority for the past five years as an office assistant and driver.

"Eddy was well-liked by co-workers who described him as an affable, hard-working and helpful individual. We at WASA extend our heartfelt condolences to his friends and family," the release stated.

Homicide officers are continuing enquiries.
