In an effort to raise funds for their school's library and to send out a message to the nation, pupils of the Ramai Trace, Hindu Primary School in Debe on Sunday held a walkathon with parents, friends and community members.

One hundred and forty pupils carried placards based on the theme "Protecting our children the Future" while following the St Patrick Cub Scout band during the walk.

The walk began at the school and ended at the Congo Village Recreation Ground where a fun and family day was held. Each child was presented with a medal at the end of the day.

Principal Adesh Ramlal, said, "Worldwide, children are being abused in all ways possible, physically, mentally, emotionally and psychologically.

When the staff and the Parent Teacher Association sat down to discuss a theme for this walkathon, we thought that the best theme should be something about the children and after brainstorming we came up with protect our children the future."
