Wanted man in critical condition after shoot-out with police

A St James man is in a serious condition at Port of Spain General Hospital after allegedly shooting at Western Division police yesterday afternoon along Belle Vue Road, off Long Circular Road, St James.

According to police reports, a party of Western Division officers, including Cpl Linton, PC Noel, Cpl Dominic and PC Noel, were on mobile patrol when they received information that a suspect, who was wanted on outstanding warrants, was seen walking along Belle Vue Road.

The officers responded and observed the suspect walking along the roadway.

He attempted to flee the scene and ran up the inclined road. The officers gave chase and the suspect jumped into a ravine, where he pulled a firearm and shot at the lawmen.

The officers took cover and returned fire.

The suspect was hit once in his head during the exchange.

He was placed in the police vehicle and rushed to hospital.

A Taurus pistol was recovered at the scene.

The man was under police guard in a serious but stable condition.
