Warrant out for senior cop
Police intend executing four arrest warrants today on a senior police officer who will be charged with multiple offences of fraud.
The warrants were obtained yesterday by officers of the Professional Standards Unit of the Police Service, a department charged with investigating the criminal misconduct of police officers.
The suspect in the case is an assistant superintendent of police.
Police began investigating the officer last year for embezzlement, and falsifying documents, after conducting an audit of money received at a police station from the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA).
The money was payment for the extra duty worked by police officers directing traffic during a pipe-laying project.
WASA paid $130,000 but it is alleged certain deductions were not made by the officer who misappropriated some of the money.
