Woman charged with beating mother

A WOMAN charged with beating her mother denied the claim in court yesterday.

Nancy Ramrakha, 48, of San Fernando, pleaded not guilty when she appeared before Deputy Chief Magistrate Mark Wellington in the San Fernando First Magistrates’ Court.

He read the charge that last Saturday Ramrakha assaulted Mertle Ramrakha, 69, by beating her.

The younger Ramrakha was also charged with using obscene language on that day.

Ramrakha admitted to cursing.

The court heard that at around 12.15 p.m., the officer, responding to a report, went to Circular Road, San Fernando.

The officer told Ramrakha that she was conducting an investigation in which she was a suspect and warned her.

But Ramrakha cursed and told the police she was “upset”.

Wellington ordered that she pay $100 for the offence or serve 14 days in prison.

On the second charge, Ramrakha was placed on $1,000 own bail and ordered to return to court on April 17.
