A WOMAN who allegedly snatched a money bag containing over $60,000 in cash and cheques in San Fernando was arrested by police along with her three accomplices yesterday.
The suspect, a 21-year-old of Nelson Street, Port of Spain, and the three men aged between 25 and 28 years old, of Marabella and Gasparillo, were stopped during a high-speed chase along the Solomon Hochoy Highway.
According to police, at around 9.35 a.m. an employee of Princess Cosmetics in Princes Town was holding a money bag with $58,000 and cheques valued $2,086 on her way to make a deposit at Republic Bank, at Harris Promenade.
She told police she was accosted by a woman outside the bank, who pushed her down and began to struggle with her. The employee said during the struggle the thief snatched the bag and ran off.
Police were contacted and a party of officers coordinated an exercise led by Supt Zamsheed Mohammed and including officers of the Operations Unit (South), Gasparillo CID and Traffic Task Force in search of the suspects.
Police said the suspects were cornered in a Kia Rio driving in the vicinity of the overpass at Harmony Hall, Gasparillo.
The suspects are expected to be placed on several identification parades in connection with similar crimes.
