Woman, 31, to be charged for abortion

A 31-YEAR-OLD mother will be charged with attempting to kill her unborn baby after the child died yesterday morning.

Police reports are that the mother, a labourer living at Fifth Company, St Mary’s, visited a doctor on Saturday and ingested cytotec pills.

She was three months’ pregnant.

At around 4 a.m., she began getting labour pains and a premature baby girl was born at her home.

Both mother and child were taken to Princes Town District Health Facility at around 6 a.m. The baby died on the way to the hospital. The mother was later transferred to San Fernando General Hospital.

Officers from St Mary’s Police Station are conducting investigations. An autopsy is expected to be conducted on the child today.
