Cops issue 74 tickets, arrest 38 in South

A total of 74 tickets were issued and 38 people arrested during a 24-hour police exercise carried out in the Southern Division from early Friday morning into yesterday morning.

Twenty-five of the 38 people arrested were held on outstanding warrants, eight people were held for narcotic offences and five on enquiries for outstanding crimes.

The warrant exercises which were held between 6 a.m. Friday to 6 a.m. yesterday at Barrackpore, Princes Town, San Fernando and Tableland were co-ordinated by Snr Sup Lewis, Sup Maynard, Asp Mohammed Sgt Ramgewan and Ag Insp Ramdath.

Police are also searching for three men who gang raped a 19-year-old San Fernando woman early yesterday morning.

Police reports stated the woman of Thomas Street, San Fernando, left the Southern Edge Night Club, La Romaine, around 5 a.m. in the company of three men she knew.

The men took the woman to a house at Ria Ramnarine Drive, Tarouba, where they took turns in sexually assaulting her.

The woman was then dropped off at Marabella.

She went to the Marabella Police Station where she made a report. She was taken to the DMO where she was medically examined.
