Worker's death ruled homicide

THE DEATH of a 45-year-old Couva CEPEP employee, who passed away on Wednesday after being beaten with a brick by a man in July, has been ruled as a homicide.

A post-mortem revealed that Naresh Khanhai died from cerebral cranial trauma.

On July 1, he was found unconscious and in a pool of blood at Fastin Chinese Restaurant in Preysal, Couva.

Police discovered that he was beaten on his head and upper body with a brick by another man during an altercation.

He was taken for treatment at Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex where he remained in a coma until August.

Police attempted to obtain a statement from Khanhai, but the victim had difficulty speaking.

He was subsequently discharged from hospital.

However, on August 29, he was again taken to the hospital after complaining of severe head and chest pains.

He succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday at San Fernando General Hospital.

Police are searching for the suspect and are seeking the public's assistance in the case.
