THE home of Member of Parliament for Diego Martin North East Colm Imbert was struck by bandits on Monday morning, with the thieves making off with more than $200,000 worth of cash, jewelry and electronics, among other items.

Investigating officers said Imbert had secured and left his Hillboro Place, Maraval home around 9 a.m. and returned about two hours later. Upon entering the house, officers said, the former works and transport minister under the People's National Movement (PNM) government noticed that the house was ransacked and the items missing.

No one else was at home at the time, police said.

Among the items said to be taken were several television sets and a Sony PlayStation 3 gaming system, along with ten games.

Imbert made a report at Maraval Police Station and officers went to the scene and carried out investigations.

Officers said two men had been arrested but were later released.

They said, based on information they received, they were confident that those responsible for the robbery will be arrested soon.

Contacted by phone yesterday evening, Imbert said he was not willing to comment on the incident.
