'Customer' shoots doubles vendor

By Carolyn Kissoon

A doubles vendor was yesterday shot by a man pretending to be a customer.

Dhanraj Ragoo, 31, was conducting sales at his stall, along the main road in Debe, around 7.30 a.m, when a man walked up and placed an order.

Police said Ragoo was preparing the doubles, when the "customer" demanded he hand over cash and jewelry.

But Ragoo, of Rochard Douglas Road, Barrackpore, refused to hand over his valuables.

Police said the suspect pulled out a gun and fired a shot at Ragoo.

The bullet grazed his wrist and entered his lower abdomen.

The suspect grabbed Ragoo's gold chain, wristband and money before escaping.

Police said the stall was splattered with blood and forensic experts were dusting for evidence.

Ragoo was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital and was listed in stable condition yesterday.
