The political environment in Tobago took a new turn yesterday as a 16-year-old girl alleged she was beaten by a man in the Signal Hill area for wearing a PNM jersey on Wednesday.
Crystal Smith, of Signal Hill, Tobago, told the Express a man attacked her in her community after she was seen wearing a People's National Movement T-shirt.
She said she was hit by the grandfather of a resident shortly after 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
"The man cuff me on my foot, and he slap me up and he told me, 'Go take off my jersey,'" Smith said.
Smith said she was also verbally abused by a group of people who were with the man.
"You done know what is your position already. Orville London cyah help you. Take off the PNM jersey," Smith said they told her.
Smith said she made a police report.
Tobagonians go to the polls on Monday in the THA election.
