CARAPICHAIMA Carnival Committee chairman Lewellyn Mc Donald has said bandleaders will be pleased with the increase in prize money, when they attend today's prize-giving function.
Mc Donald said since he took office in 2007, the Band of the Year prize has gone from $8,000 to $13,000 this year.
He said the money will be an incentive to the bands that have worked hard over the past 57 years to bring the Carnival alive in Carapichaima.
Carnival Monday saw a large turnout of spectators and masqueraders at the Old Train Station in Wyaby Road, Carapichaima.
For a second consecutive year, the Chase Village Carnival presentation, At the Movies, placed first in the large band category.
Mc Donald said although the celebration has grown since its inception, it can be better.
He said: "The celebrations have improved by leaps and bounds but still, it has room for improvement. We would like to see the bleachers covered and the judging area elevated a little higher. The mas has certainly improved."
Distribution of prizes will be held at the Old Train Station in Wyaby Road today, at 10 a.m.
