'Put a woman in charge of THA'

The Network of NGOs (non-governmental organisations) of Trinidad and Tobago wants to see a woman leading the Tobago House of Assembly (THA).

In a release yesterday, coordinator of the Network of NGOs Hazel Brown said they had noted the increase in the number of women in the Assembly, but "next time, we should put a woman in the chair".

She said the Network of NGOs wished to congratulate all of the women who participated in the elections.

"Claudia Groome-Duke and Tracy Davidson-Celestine, who have been elected to the THA, as well as the new assemblywoman, Dr Denise Tsoi-a-Fatt-Angus.

We also congratulate Tracy Davidson-Celestine on her appointment as Deputy Chief Secretary. We also want to encourage those women who were not successful to continue to take an active role in the politics of Tobago," Brown said.
