Tools...What role did Ramadhar play in drafting Defence Bill?Questions have been raised by Opposition Leader Keith Rowley about the role played by Congress of the People's(COP) leader Prakash Ramadhar in the drafting of the controversial Amendments to the Defence Force Act 2013. Rowley slammed into Ramadhar, accusing him of being an upholder of wrongdoings of the People's Partnership government, adding, " In Tobago we have a saying the upholder is worse than the thief." Rowley explained that in this instance the COP is the upholder of the UNC wrongdoing, and he said Ramadhar is yet to tell the country what role he had in drafting the legislation to give powers of arrest to soldiers. "He is head of the Legislative Review Council in the Cabinet, the man is so without certain organs that that matter does not come to him, it doesn't come to him at the Cabinet, something comes from somebody else that creates this problem, and he agrees to go along with it and brings it to the Parliament… then he tells the media he has a problem with it… but goes ahead and votes for it," Rowley said. "Who you trying to fool," Rowley asked, adding, that Ramadhar's biggest issue was that he wanted an apology from the National Security Minister, Jack Warner against COP member Vernon De Lima. "What is an apology from Warner worth? That, my friends, is the sum total of the value of the COP. Of all that is going on in the country which is detrimental to the people, threatening your peace and good order, threatening your life under the Constitution", he is asking for an apology. Rowley, who was speaking in Arima on Tuesday night at a public political meeting, took issue with the COP linking the PNM to allegations of participating in subversive meetings, an allegation first raised by Warner. The PNM has categorically denied this. |
