And last night, a Caroni watchman was gunned down near his home. Michael Heeralal, 43, of Ruby Lane, La Paille Village, discovered in a drain opposite his home, police said.

According to police, at around 11.45 p.m. Heeralal left home for work at a construction site near his home. Moments later, his relatives heard gunshots and upon checking discovered his body.

Police officers of the Central Division Task Force, including Inspector Teesdale, PC Ramdial and WPC Mc Clean responded and found Heeralal had been shot in the neck and back. Robbery has been ruled out as the motive.
