Petrotrin Phase 11 Pan Groove ended Neal and Massy Trinidad All Stars two-year reign as national pan champions when they captured the 2013 National Steelband Panorama title at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain, on Saturday.
Competing in the Large Conventional band category with the Len “Boogsie” Sharpe composed and arranged “More Love”, which was vocalized by Leroy “Black Stalin” Calliste, Phase 11 gave a dazzling performance to relegate the hattrick seeking All Stars into second position.
Fans of the band based on Hamilton Street, Woodbrook, Port of Spain, had to wait until 2.40 a.m. before Phase 11 took the stage but it was justified with an almost flawless execution of an arrangement filled with melodious runs and crescendos.
All Stars delivered another lively performance of the Leon "Smooth" Edwards's arranged "Bounce and Drive" but the 278 points they were awarded fell five short of Phase 11's tally.
Bp Renegades took third with their rendition of Duvonne Stewart's arrangement of “Shock Attak.”
In the Medium Band category, NLCB Buccooneers ensured that Tobago maintained its recent dominance when it amassed 279 points to clinch victory with its Seion Gomez arrangement of “Gold.”
Courts Sound Specialists of Laventille performing the Ken “Professor” Philmore arranged “Long Time” earned 276 points for second place while Petrotrin Katzenjammers rendition of “Keshorn—Javelin Champion” secured them third place with 272 points.
Buccooneers’ win was the fourth in succession by a band from the sister isle in the medium band category.
