Njisane Phillip advanced to the quarterfinal round of the match sprint when he defeated New Zealand's Edward Dawkins in the round of 16 at the Cycling Velodrome in London.

Phillip needs to get past quarterfinal opponent Denis Dmitriev of the Russian Federation to put himself in contention for precious metal.
